Main properties of Shatavari

Ayurveda signifies Asparagus racemosus, as an important herb to treat disorders affecting women’s health and classify it as:

  • Medhya: Enhancing intelligence, promoting learning and memory
  • Rasayana: Improving health by increasing immunity, vitality, and resistance. It acts as a rejuvenator and imparts longevity as well as helps in reducing stress.

The modern Ayurvedic practices utilize the roots of herbs as an antispasmodic, appetizer, stomach tonic, aphrodisiac, galactagogue, astringent, antidiarrheal, anti-dysenteric, laxative, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, blood purifier, anti-tubercular, antiepileptic and night blindness, kidney problems, and throat complaints. Shatavari shows the galactagogue effect. It regulates hormonal secretion, which induces milk production in nursing women. Traditionally, Shatavari tubers are eaten by a nursing woman for the production of breast milk.
